Art therapy is based on the assumption that the process of creating art makes it possible to communicate without words and express thoughts and feelings. As in psychotherapy the goal is to enable understanding and growth of the self. The assumption underlying the treatment is that each individual is able to express himself creatively, and that the final product obtained is not important but the process of his creation, so no prior knowledge or talent is needed to participate in the treatment.
The emphasis is not on the aesthetic aspect but on the therapeutic needs expressed by the child. Arts therapy can help develop self-expression, self-awareness and self-esteem; To improve coping with organic, developmental, functional, emotional and mental difficulties; To provide tools for dealing with stressful situations, trauma, illness and adjustment problems; As well as for the development of social skills and interpersonal communication skills.
