Physical education and recreational and sports games for children with visual impairment or blindness

Physical activity invites situations that require cooperation, mutual help, teamwork, etc. The movement and playful activities are an opportunity to establish connections and deepen the social integration of children with visual impairment or blindness.

Task Objectives:

  • Strengthening motor security among the child
  • Strengthening confidence in self-image and a sense of competeness
  • Imparting age-matching sports skills


  • Me and my body – naming, using body parts, and isolating organs (recommended in front of a mirror).
  • Strengthening the muscles of the body – strengthening with a roll, plate and stevular, tunnel, physique ball, lying on a bench and pushing with your hands, going up and down from a bench.

Examples of physical activity and play

  • Runs and jumps

For example: running, galloping a horse, chasing steps, running in a slalom between cones, skipping (high stage), jumping with two legs, jumping from side to side, jumping punctuation closing (combination of hands), hooping to hoop, jumping on one leg standing on one leg.

  • Running – hand in hand, running alone towards a ringing bell, running in circles in both directions, to the wall and back.
  • Running in the slalom – crossing the midline.
  • Galloping, persecution, jumping from side to side – a combination of left and right
  • Jump from side to side, jump punctuation closure – using a skip to get around the space

Playing in a group for children with visual impairment
games can be suitable for play and sports groups for children with visual impairments and for visually impaired children who are in a desirable group with seeing children.
The game can also be adapted in a parent-child family setting or siblings.
Purpose of the activity:
Experiential activity, empowering, for the group of equals, games of sharing with the aim of developing and improving the child's self-image and self-confidence, and motor.
All activities are adapted to visual impairments in a sophisticated and safe place using prominent objects, and clear explanations of the rules of the game, and during the game.
The activity will include sporting games:
Running games, and agility

  • Relay race – running, with the help of an object (such as – moving a stick, walking on crutches, a hoops track…)
  • "The Handkerchief Concept" game – each child received a number from one to six (according to the number of children). Games that include change of direction

  • "The vests" – two children wear a vest and receive a cube that can stick to the vest.

For teaching, the children throw the cube at each other in an attempt to get the cube to hit the vest.
Other games: 
Parachute activity

  • All the kids are holding the parachute around together.
  • Shake the parachute, keep a bullet on the parachute while shaking,
  • Each child in turn says if the "sea" – calm (shakes the parachute weakly) or turbulent (shakes hard)
  • "Cat and Mouse" – The mouse under the parachute, the cat on the parachute, the cat has to grab the mouse, while the children stand around, shaking the parachute.
  • "Lollipop" child lies on one side of the parachute, holding a parachute and rolling on the abdomen and back.

Ball and Cube Games

Activity with hoops

Activities and motor play that require collaboration

  1. "Train" – each small group stands as a train in a column. For the first whistle, the team goes as a train after the first leading participant. For another whistle, the last participant in the column becomes the first in the column, and so on.
  2. "Look for the group" – division into small groups, identification and discernment of the group members. For the first whistle, the children disperse in space, each separately, without a group. For a second whistle, search for the teammates and band together to return to the origin group.
  3. "Tail Game" – Each teacher will receive a glowing colored ribbon, channeling the film as a tail. For the first whistle, the teachers will try to grab as many tails of other teachers as possible. Plus, try not to lose their tails. For another whistle, stop the game. The teacher who managed to collect as many tails as possible is the winner.
